CTO activated carbon filter is one of our commonly used water purifier filters. The function of the CTO filter is to further remove residual chlorine, odors, and solid impurities from the water. So, what are the factors that affect the service life of activated carbon filters?

1. The properties of activated carbon. Since the adsorption phenomenon occurs on the surface of the adsorbent, the specific surface area of the adsorbent is one of the important factors affecting the adsorption, and the larger the specific surface area, the better the adsorption performance. The micropore distribution, surface chemistry and charge of activated carbon also affect the adsorption effect.

2. The nature of the adsorbate solute or contaminant. The adsorption capacity of the same activated carbon for different pollutants varies greatly.

(1) The solubility of solubility to the same group of substances decreases with the lengthening of the chain, while the adsorption capacity increases with the increase of the series of congeners or the increase of molecular weight. The lower the solubility, the easier it is to adsorb.

(2) When the concentration of the adsorbate is within a certain range, the adsorption capacity increases with the increase of concentration. As a result, the concentration of the adsorbate (solute) changes, and the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon to the adsorbate (solute) also changes.

3. pH value of the solution. Because activated carbon can adsorb hydrogen and oxygen ions in water, it affects the adsorption of other ions. The effect of activated carbon on adsorbing organic pollutants from water generally decreases with the increase of the pH value of the solution, and when the pH value is higher than 9.0, it is not easy to adsorb, and the lower the pH value, the better the effect. At the end of the 20th century, some water plants in China began to apply the bioactivated carbon method used in combination with ozone and activated carbon filters to carry out advanced treatment of tap water.
